The Rise of Social Media

A tweet from Joel Book, Sr. Director of Digital Marketing Insight at SalesForce (@joelbook), caught my attention the other day. He was sharing an infographic by a company called SnapParcel about The Rise of Social Media in Online Retail. Kudos to them for putting this infographic together.

The entire infographic is below, but I wanted to just highlight a couple of interesting trends.

  • Social media increased its share of e-commerce referrals nearly 200% between the first quarters of 2014 and 2015.
  • Social media spending accounted for just 9% of the overall budget, but that number is expected to expand to 22% over the next five years.

Facebook is slated to be the largest driver of revenue from online shopping. Think about that for a minute. Assuming that last statement is true, then what does that mean for your ability to sell online? We are way past just web portal ticketing systems and selling CDS of your latest creation on a website.

Facebook already has the ability to connect you with new customers (patrons) through boosting your posts on your Facebook page. You do boost your posts on your Facebook Page don’t you???

Enjoy this infographic. I spent an hour going through it!
